Today, the term “Métis” has become a term that includes a large, diverse group of ‘mixed blood’ peoples. This term does not include the Michif. Those of us who identify as Michif want families and community to understand that Michif is not just a language, but a distinct identity.

The intention of this project was to provide our young people and their families with knowledge that will help strengthen their identity as Michif people and help them raise their children with that identity.

In true Michif fashion, we listened to our lee vyeu, who told us their individual stories. The results of their stories were used to develop a booklet.
