“Sewing Circle” is held WEEKLY (Tuesdays @ 6:30-8:30 at la kaav (City Park School).
It is MORE THAN sewing! You can bring any project you want to work on. The most common projects participants bring are: beading, knitting, whittling, rug hooking, embroidery, painting, finger weaving, jewelry making, crocheting, crafting, etc…
Participants enjoy each other’s company but also learn from one another. There is usually someone present to “mentor” you in projects. We have many talented members willing to help out and share their skills and talents.
From time to time, we host specific workshops to expand our skill set. For example we‘ve done embroidery, felting, rug hooking, porcupine quill, moccasin making, earring making, etc… Members get first chance to sign up for these workshops.
Come on down whenever you are free and enjoy the community we have formed.

ZINE WORKSHOP FOR METIS YOUTH
Join Gabriel Dumont Local #11 for a hands-on zine-making workshop for Métis youth.
Explore identity, place, culture, and community through art and storytelling. Create your own zine about what being Métis in Saskatoon means today.
Zines are DIY mini-magazines used to share ideas and build community. We'll use them to explore Métis heritage-the only limit is what fits on the photocopier.
LI Zhoor Di Rway 2026
Come join in the Li Zhoor Di Rway festivities to bring in the new year with members and the general public. Come for a delicious tortiere supper with all the fixings and then visit from table to table for dessert. Fiddle music and dancing will follow.

Road Allowance Kitten Play
Greystone Heights presents Road Allowance Kitten, based on the Children’s book Road Allowance Kitten by Wilfred Burton. Based on a true story, the play gives a glimpse into the history of the Road Allowance Métis and their forced removal from their humble, but beloved, homes on the road allowance. Gabriel Dumont Local #11 is offering Children’s Metis Dance with Johnny Caisse. When your register, please indicate if your child is a beginner or intermediate. Both are on the same day, one follows the other.
While the children are dancing the parents work on projects to create their child’s (children’s) outfit. No experience necessary. Parents stay during the hour lesson.
This session goes for ten weeks starting January 11th. Weekly attendance is expected. It is not a drop in type of program.
The children will be learning Metis dance: squares, contra dances, social dances and various jigs steps.
Metis Dance for Adults (16 years and older)
Come learn some Metis dances: squares (first change, second change, third change), contra dances (la danse du crochet, etc.) and jig steps. You may learn some social dances (heel toe polka, etc.) too.
No experience necessary, just some energy and willingness to learn.
Bring your own water bottle and comfortable footwear for dancing (leather soled shoes, moccasins, etc.).
Sessions will be taught by Johnny Caisse every Wednesday starting January 14th @ 6:30 p.m.
